The boundaries between art, design, ceramics and sculpture are becoming increasingly blurred as a result of the variety of materials and techniques used in the production of art. In the midst of this, both in Japan and overseas, clay is being rethought as a material for a wide range of forms, and clay as a material is finding a wide range of possibilities for expression beyond the traditional field of ceramics.
In this exhibition, we present approximately 100 ceramic works and related works by five artists from Japan and abroad, Beth Cavener (USA), Susan Halls (UK), Yoshitomo Nara (Japan), Stephanie Quayle (UK), and Kim Simonsson (Finland), who address the fundamental motif of human beings and animals through clay. The artists have been working together to explore their respective interests.
Each of the artists has a particular interest in combining the qualities of clay with the life and reality of living things. We hope you will enjoy the variety of these works, which highlight the power of clay and new aspects of clay art.
