December 3 (Thu) 2020 - January 30 (Sat), 2021
Gallery 38 is delighted to present a drawing exhibition by Stephanie Quayle.
Before putting her hands in clay, Stephanie sketches vigorously, attempting to inhabit the animal as to better understand them. Building an energy through drawing , the marks take on the vital force of animal.
The process results in her sculptures bearing all the traces of their making.
The exhibition shows Stephanie sketches along side some sculptural works.
Making marks on paper, on walls, on the ground and in the mud builds an energy for making sculpture. Through the animal we share a connection to nature as old as mankind.
The experience of drawing brings the animal near. An antidote to the disconnection from nature we seem to cultivate. Drawing is to summon, to be in awe, to make my own. Simple, quick and joyful, is it the most direct way of capturing the energy and essence. More mindful, more in the moment, more animal.
Unconscious, uninhibited lines and marks made in an instant, gather an understanding of the animal; their weight, a shared gaze and of the distance between us. The Sculptures that follow are drawings in 3D.
